ZANU PF Harare Province has elected veteran politician Cde Goodwills Masimirembwa as the party’s interim provincial chairperson, with former youth leader Cde Godwin Gomwe as his deputy.
In the election that was held yesterday under the supervision of the ruling party’s national political commissar Cde Victor Matemadanda, Cde Betty Kaseke was elected provincial Women’s League chairperson, with District Coordinating Committee (DCC) Zone 6 chairman Cde Ephraim Fundukwa being elected provincial secretary for Administration.
Cde Kudakwashe Damson is now the political commissar, while the vibrant Cde Emmanuel Mahachi was elected provincial youth chairperson, a position which was previously occupied by Cde Gomwe before the province was dissolved.
Cde George Chimhini emerged victorious as secretary of finance.
Cde Masimirembwa takes over from Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province Cde Oliver Chidau who held the position in an acting capacity.
Cde Masimirembwa retained his position, which he previously held before the province was dissolved last year.
Last week, the Politburo recommended the 30-member District Coordinating Committees (DCC) to elect members of the interim provincial committee from among themselves, with each member free to contest for any position.
The members consist of the chairman, political commissar and chairpersons from the youth, women’s league and the war veterans’ wings from each DDC
President Mnangagwa dissolved the Harare and Bulawayo Zanu PF provincial structures last year after they performed dismally in the 2018 elections.
Last weekend, Bulawayo Province elected Cde Obert Msindo as interim chairperson with Cde Mnothisi Nsingo as his deputy.
Cde Matemadanda said the interim provincial executive committees for the two metropolitan provinces are expected to instil discipline among party members and strengthen structures in preparation for the 2023 harmonised elections.
The two provinces had been without an executive following the dissolution of structures in 2019
