War veterans from Mashonaland West Province have urged Zanu-PF to embrace all people, as some of them were forced by circumstances to join the opposition. Masholanand West provincial war veterans chairman Cde Cornelius Muoni said more people were needed in the party than outside.
Cde Muoni was speaking while addressing delegates attending a provincial inter-district meeting in Chinhoyi yesterday. The gesture of welcoming all people back into the party, he said, was aimed at building a new Zimbabwe.
“Political opponents are not necessarily enemies, remember most of them did not go there willingly, but were forced to do so by squabbles in the party. So, when you do your slogan saying pasi neparty yakati (down with a certain political party), even if they want to come back, they will say how do we go to those who are rebuking us,” said Cde Muoni.
Cde Muoni said the party needed more people to vote for it in the 2018 harmonised elections. Zanu-PF provincial vice chairperson Cde Keith Guzah said activities of the power-hungry G40 cabal had thrown the party into disarray.
Cde Guzah said the cabal was taking advantage of former President Robert Mugabe’s advanced age. The cabal, he said, was firing party members to settle personal scores at the expense of the revolutionary party.
During the inter-district meeting, the province reaffirmed its position of endorsing President Emmerson Mnangagwa as the party’s First Secretary and Presidential candidate in next year’s elections.
The leadership also endorsed the Central Committee resolution on the lifting of suspensions and expulsions of members after the 2014 Congress, as well as endorsing the resolution with regards to the restructuring of the party. Delegates were expected to leave yesterday afternoon for Harare to attend Extraordinary Congress today.
