Zanu-PF fine tunes for primaries

ZANU-PF’s PROVINCIAL structures have processed the curriculum vitaes of members aspiring to contest in the May 5 primary elections, and the ruling party’s National Elections Directorate will begin receiving the documents today.

The lists of aspiring candidates eyeing Senate, National Assembly and local government seats will be transmitted to the party’s headquarters in Harare for final verification.

Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Cde Christopher Sibanda said they had scheduled a Provincial Co-ordinating Committee meeting today for final verification of CVs before sending them to Harare tomorrow.

Matabeleland North will send a list of 400 aspiring candidates, with provincial chair Cde Richard Moyo saying the verification process had gone well.

“I cannot give you the names of the candidates until headquarters has verified and selected the final list for the primaries,” he said.

Matabeleland South provincial chair Cde Rabelani Choene said: “We are still finalising. However we will submit the list on Monday.”

Manicaland provincial chair Cde Mike Madiro also said the process had gone well.

His Mashonaland Central counterpart Cde Kazembe Kazembe said: “If we manage to complete the job in time then we may convene the PCC (today).”

Zanu-PF Mashonaland West chair Cde Ziyambi Ziyambi said the province was likely to present its recommendations to the National Elections Directorate tomorrow; a position similar to that stated by Midlands chair Cde Mackenzie Ncube.

Added Cde Ncube: “We received a lot of CV’s from the aspiring party members and of note is the CV of Lieutenant-General (Retired) (Sibusiso) Moyo which was accepted unchallenged (for Mberengwa Senate representative).”

In Masvingo, provincial chair Cde Ezra Chadzamira said a list of aspiring candidates had been finalised and was ready for submission to headquarters.

Harare provincial chairperson Cde Godwills Masimirembwa said: “We received 600 applications and hope to submit them on Monday (tomorrow).”

Zimbabwe will hold harmonised elections in July and international pre-poll observers have already been to Zimbabwe.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on all Zimbabweans to embrace peace and unity before and after the polls, emphasising that his Government would oversee free, fair and credible polls.
