A joint meeting between the youth and women’s leagues of Zanu PF and Mozambique’s Frelimo party to strengthen ties and foster collaboration has been proposed by Zanu PF Secretary-General Dr Obert Mpofu.
He made the proposal during a meeting with his Frelimo counterpart, Cde Chakil Aboobacar, last Friday at the Zanu PF headquarters in Harare to deepen the historical bond shared by the two liberation movements, emphasising the importance of solidarity and the ongoing struggle for economic emancipation.
Dr Mpofu celebrated the recent elevation of Frelimo leaders and underscored the need for collaboration in the face of neo-colonial challenges.
“Our shared history imposes upon us a sacred obligation to deepen and broaden cooperation,” said Dr Mpofu. “Let us rededicate ourselves to strengthening ecological and strategic coordination to tackle these challenges. Political freedom must be accompanied by economic emancipation.”
The proposed meetings, which would alternate between Zimbabwe and Mozambique, are intended to nurture the next generation of leaders and facilitate joint training programmes. These initiatives will focus on areas such as digital communication, climate resilience, and social entrepreneurship.
As Zanu PF and Frelimo look to the future, this collaboration could pave the way for innovative policies that benefit their populations and strengthen the regional alliance.
Cde Aboobacar accepted the offer, saying the collaboration could not be more timely as the region is faced with numerous challenges.
“Many things are happening in our region and we need to be united. It brings us to the reflection that we need to work together,” said Cde Aboobacar. “Our usual enemies have not stopped. They have looked at other means to destabilise our countries. The proposal you made that our youth league and our women’s leagues can meet, we support it and we are ready to host them in Maputo, so if you agree with us, the first meetings can be in Maputo.
“So, the responsibility is on us, the secretaries-general, that we can choose a date that will be this year, so that they discuss issues like economic emancipation, among others,” said Cde Aboobacar.
