THE ZANU PF Harare Province leadership has said it is alive to the obligation to secure urban votes to ensure the ruling party wins resoundingly in the 2023 harmonised elections.
This is on the back of life-changing deliverables being accorded to the citizenry by the Second Republic.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail, the ruling party’s chairman for Harare Province Cde Godwills Masimirembwa said as the provincial leadership they were working tirelessly to ensure President Mnangagwa wins in Harare and ultimately the 2023 plebiscite.
“As Harare province we have just come from by-elections in 12 constituencies and over 30 wards so we have been on the campaign trail ever since then and we haven’t got out of that mind-set. 2023 elections are around the corner and we are continuing with our mobilisation programmes, covering all 29 constituencies and all wards,” he said.
Cde Masimirembwa said they had since embarked on a polling station-based mobilisation drive and are fully committed to wooing urban voters.
“Our cells are centred around each polling station to determine how many of our party members are voting at a particular polling station so we are able to determine whether we have an upper hand or not at a particular polling station,” he said.
Turning to assertions that Government programmes only benefit the ruling party’s members, Cde Masimirembwa said: “President Mnangagwa has now taken over responsibility of local authorities and started resurfacing roads so I do not know if these roads are marked ZANU PF? Any Zimbabwean will drive on that road. When water is made available it flows through every household irrespective of political affiliation.
‘‘The growth and developmental trajectory of President Mnangagwa is based on his mantra that no place and no one will be left behind.”
ZANU PF Harare Province Youth League chairperson Cde Emmanuel Mahachi said they are on a comprehensive voter mobilisation drive.
“We have started a programme where we are verifying members of the party to check who is registered to vote and who is not so that we encourage them to register. We are moving in all our zones and districts verifying that all youth members are registered to vote. Come 2023 every single party member should be registered to vote to ensure a resounding victory for President Mnangagwa,” he said.
