ZANU PF Manicaland will hold inter-district meetings on Tuesday to educate its structures on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 ahead of parliamentary public hearings.
Senior party officials will be deployed to explain the bill’s key points, which include changing the Presidential election process, extending Presidential and parliamentary terms from five to seven years, and increasing the number of appointed senators from 80 to 90.
The Bill proposes that the President be elected by Members of Parliament instead of direct public vote as well as dissolving the Zimbabwe Gender Commission and transfer its duties to the Human Rights Commission. Other proposed changes include altering electoral management responsibilities and raising qualifications for the Attorney-General.
Provincial chairman Cde Tawanda Mukodza said resources were needed to effectively disseminate information on the bill.
Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, emphasised the importance of the bill in strengthening governance and promoting stability, aligning with President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030.
Politburo member Cde Patrick Chinamasa dismissed calls for a referendum as unconstitutional.
