THE ruling party Zanu-PF on Tuesday held election victory celebrations at Sivalo area in Nkayi North where Minister of Industry and Commerce Dr Sithembiso Nyoni urged the community to focus on development and transforming the country.
Dr Nyoni said now that the elections are over, all efforts should be directed at implementing development projects to ensure the country’s vision of an upper middle-income economy by 2030 is realised.
Minister Nyoni was speaking during victory celebrations for Zanu-PF Councillor, Mr Mandla Ncube who polled 407 votes in the December 9 by-elections against 124 votes for Mr Mbonisi Khumalo of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) who came second.
Mr Mzila Mpofu of Zapu garnered 50 votes while MDC-T’s Mr Phillip Ndlovu received 26 votes.
Zanu-PF controls 12 wards out of 15 in Nkayi North constituency.
“Now that elections are behind us, let’s focus on developmental issues. In January you must make sure you form cell committees, then branches and finally the district,” said Dr Nyoni.
She said the party structures are supposed to facilitate and mobilise people to participate in development programmes.
Dr Nyoni, who is also a Politburo member, said the party leadership from First Secretary President Mnangagwa was grateful for the votes received during the harmonised elections in August and the recent by-elections.
In his address, Clr Ncube paid tribute to the electorate for voting him back to council and promised to continue pushing for implementation of development projects.
“We have eight villages in Ward 11 and each should have a borehole drilled under the ongoing national borehole drilling programme.
“I will ensure these boreholes are put to good use so that we benefit as a community,”he said.
Clr Ncube said most homesteads in the area have old people who are going to benefit from the solar-powered boreholes.
The party’s victory celebrations were also attended by district and provincial party leadership with several art groups providing entertainment.
