Provincial chairman Cde Lovemore Matuke said yesterday that the management teams’ activities would cascade to the lower tiers of the party up to ward level.
He said the teams were formed during the party’s provincial executive workshop that was held at the weekend.
“We have set up seven management teams that are made up of party leaders from the province’s seven administrative districts that will spearhead and co-ordinate the party’s election campaign as we approach the forthcoming harmonised elections,” said Cde Matuke.
“We want to make sure that the party is in good shape in the province to win the next elections.’’
Cde Matuke expressed happiness with the level of unity and the spirit of togetherness prevailing in the party in Masvingo, saying the major thrust was to win back all the seats that were lost to the MDC-T in the previous polls.
“We are very pleased as a party with the level of unity and spirit of togetherness that is prevailing in Zanu-PF at the moment,” he said.
“We are bound by one objective, that is to make sure that President Mugabe and Zanu-PF win the next elections.
“There is unanimity among the rank and file of the party in Masvingo that we must reclaim all the seats that went to the MDC in the last elections and considering the state of preparedness in the party, we are going to trounce the MDC.’
Cde Matuke said MDC-T performed dismally during its four-year stint in the inclusive Government.
“As a party, we are geared for the polls which will mark the end of the MDC-T in Masvingo and I am happy that people have now seen the party for what it really is; a corrupt grouping of people without an ideological direction,’’ he said.
Zanu-PF has been sharpening its election campaign ammunition in Masvingo by restructuring the party’s structures down to ward level to make sure that it becomes a formidable entity ahead of the historic polls.
The revolutionary party surrendered its unfettered dominance of the Masvingo political landscape in the last election when it lost control of 14 seats to the MDC-T out of the 26 seats in the province.
Intense infighting and jockeying for positions in the MDC-T, coupled with poor record of service delivery and rampant corruption have severely damaged its electoral prospects.
This has left the Western-sponsored party at the mercy of a resurgent Zanu-PF.
