President Mugabe as the party’s candidate for elections set for early next year.
The provinces will also come up with resolutions that would be presented at the party’s Annual National People’s Conference set for Gweru from December 4 to 9. Matabeleland North held its conference last Sunday where it endorsed President Mugabe’s candidature and made resolutions on indigenisation and empowerment.
Zanu-PF spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo said yesterday that the provincial inter-district conferences would be presided over by Politburo members.
“Before we go to our annual conference, provinces hold provincial inter-district conferences where they will come up with resolutions,” he said.
“All provinces are expected to endorse President Mugabe as the party’s candidate for elections set for next year.”
On Saturday, Vice-President Joice Mujuru will be the guest of honour at the Mashonaland Central provincial inter-district conference.
Zanu-PF national chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo will preside over a similar conference to be held in Matabeleland South.
Cde Gumbo will be in Masvingo, while Secretary for Administration Cde Didymus Mutasa will be in Mashonaland West. The party’s national commissar Cde Webster
Shamu will preside over the conference in Mashonaland East.
On Sunday, VP Mujuru will address the party’s Harare inter-district conference, while Cde Khaya Moyo will be in Bulawayo.
Cde Shamu will address another meeting in Manicaland, while Cde Mutasa will be the guest speaker at the Midlands conference to be held on Sunday. Cde Gumbo said the party will kick-start the Annual National People’s Conference with a Politburo meeting on December 4. He said the meeting would discuss rules and regulations for primary elections.

“We have finalised rules for primary elections and we are waiting for approval by the Politburo,” said Cde Gumbo.
“The issue is likely to be discussed at our Politburo meeting of December 4.”
Cde Gumbo emphasised that there would be no imposition of candidates in all constituencies.
“We cannot say we have reserved certain positions for the old veterans. We have to open up to young people who are the future leaders,” he said.
“The party should not be seen blocking the entry of young people.”
Cde Gumbo said the young leaders should be party members and should be ready to embrace the party’s ideology on national issues such as the land reform and indigenisation.
