Earlier, addressing delegates at a local hotel, Cde Khaya Moyo expressed satisfaction with progress made by the Midlands Province towards the hosting of the conference.
Various sub-committees, including that of transport and accommodation, documentation and legal affairs, health as well as entertainment presented reports that assured the national organisation committee that everything was in place for the hosting of a successful people’s conference.
Cde Moyo applauded the host province, Midlands, for remaining steadfast and committed to making this year’s conference unique by constructing a state-of-the-art 5 000-seater conference centre at an estimated cost of $6,5 million.
“We heard from the reports presented that everything is on course. If there were some who doubted that Midlands could successfully host the event, doubt no more. All roads lead to Gweru for the 13th Zanu-PF Annual People’s Conference,” he said to applause.
The team later toured the conference centre site where workers were busy working flat out to beat the deadline of the opening day of 4 December.
Work on the imposing structure was almost complete with the construction team now concentrating on the final touches.
Ambassador Khaya Moyo said the revolutionary Zanu-PF party had invited a number of former liberation movements in the region to this year’s event as a way of strengthening ties.
“We will continue to work towards strengthening our solidarity as former liberation movements. Any injury to a member is an injury to all. Machinations of imperialists who are pushing for regime change will be thwarted if we are united as former liberation movements,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, the party’s national political commissar, Cde Webster Shamu urged districts to be disciplined and resolve their differences in their respective areas before coming to the conference.
He said all provinces should provide lists of delegates to avoid confusion.
“I want to urge all provinces to first resolve their differences before coming to the conference. We want to emphasise discipline.
“Please we do not want confusion and we expect all provinces to submit their lists of delegates. This will help those working on providing accommodation to be guided by the lists in their planning,” said Cde Shamu.
He said all members attending the conference should be accredited to avoid gate-crashers.
A musical gala is on the cards for the delegates on the closing day of the conference.
