He said this while officially launching the Zanu-PF Sikhanyiso Ndlovu District in Bulawayo’s Njube high-density suburb.
The district was yet to be launched following the recent increase in the number of the party’s districts in the province from 54 to 106. “Sikhanyiso Ndlovu District should become a beacon and the light to guide us in consolidating the gains of the liberation struggle. To build the state, it starts in the family and one cannot expect to lead if he or she does not have support from a smaller community he or she hails from,” he said.
Dr Ndlovu said of late a number of opposition political parties had been formed in Bulawayo with their leaders aspiring to become Zimbabwe’s president yet in their own constituencies they lost elections.
“We have people like Welshman Ncube (MDC leader) and his executive, which seat did he win? And also how many political parties have been formed in Bulawayo? Let us unite as a solid bloc born out the solidarity of Matabeleland North, Bulawayo and Matabeleland South to strengthen Zanu-PF,” he said.
He said Zanu-PF was a revolutionary party meant to maintain the legacy and gains of the protracted liberation struggle adding that Zimbabwe’s independence came as a result of the armed struggle.
“We liberated this country through a lot of bloodshed. In the last 15 years, Bulawayo is still lagging behind in terms of development; companies are closing down because of the illegal sanctions imposed by the West. And because of the economic embargo, Zimbabwe cannot secure international support from multi-lateral institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank,” said Dr Ndlovu, adding that efforts were also being made by the country’s detractors to avoid the sale of Zimbabwe’s diamonds on the international market.
In face of attempts by the country’s detractors to divide people in Bulawayo and the nation at large, he said the Zanu-PF leadership had the blessings of President Mugabe to unite people. “As the party leadership, we have the responsibility of mobilising and promoting unity among the people. Unity is critical in building the country,” he said.
Dr Ndlovu also castigated some politicians that were campaigning for the Vice President’s post.
“There are some people who are greedy and are already campaigning for the Vice President’s post. Who said there is a vacancy for the Vice President’s post?”
He also took a swipe at some media reports on Zimbabwe’s political situation. “Recently, there was a story carried by the Zimbabwe Independent that South Africa president Jacob Zuma shall deal with President Mugabe. This is a blatant lie because Zimbabwe is a member of the United Nations and we signed a protocol that there shall be no political interference by another state to a sovereign member state unless there is a political risk. To that effect, we are not a political threat and Zimbabwe is a sovereign state that can make its own decisions,” he said.
He added that Zimbabwe will also not take heed of the call by the two MDC formations to have security sector reforms because the move was bent on pursuing imperialists’ agenda.
