The ruling Zanu-PF has officially launched campaigns to drum up support for its Zaka East parliamentary by-election candidate Cde Clemence Chiduwa, with the revolutionary party expressing confidence of retaining the seat.
The by-election is set for September 21.
Masvingo provincial party chair Cde Ezra Chadzamira said a ruling party victory was certain in the by-election as Zaka was a Zanu-PF stronghold.
Speaking at Chiredzana Secondary School in the constituency while officially launching Cde Chiduwa’s election campaign recently, Cde Chadzamira said Zanu-PF would easily retain Zaka East because it was the only development-oriented political party in the country.
The seat fell vacant after the death of Zanu-PF legislator Cde Caston Gumbwanda on June 25 this year.
“Zaka East is a Zanu-PF stronghold and this by-election is a walkover for the party,” said Cde Chadzamira.
“The President wants to see people from Masvingo well-catered for. This administration is for peace, unity and development which is our strategy as a party.”
Cde Chadzamira appealed to party supporters to vote for Cde Chiduwa in their numbers.
“Internal elections are a sign of internal democracy which is why we hold primary elections,” he said.
“However, in some instances we don’t do primaries to protect the party from divisions. You are already an MP, but you don’t have a manifesto because the manifesto is for the party. When you win, it is the party that wins.’’
Cde Chadzamira said the constituency was poised for development as the ruling party’s Government was mobilising resources to rehabilitate roads and sink boreholes.
