ZANU PF Manicaland has filled all vacant positions in its Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), following the co-option of some members to posts left vacant due to appointments, elevations and the passing on of serving members within the executive.
The co-options into the provincial main wing were endorsed by the Provincial Co-ordinating Committee (PCC) held in Mutare last Sunday.
The PCC meeting which was held at Marymount Teachers’ College, endorsed Cde Samson Matema as the new provincial secretary for administration. Previously, Cde Matema served as the provincial secretary for information and publicity, a role now taken over by Cde Phillip Guyo, who was formerly the provincial secretary for science and technology. Cde Guyo’s previous post was filled by Cde Tafadzwa Mugwadi through co-option.
Notably, all three leaders hail from Buhera District. Additionally, Cde David Munowenyu was appointed to fill the position of provincial secretary for labour and empowerment, having previously served in the Mutare District Co-ordinating Committee (DCC).
Cde Lincoln Dhliwayo (Chipinge) was promoted to secretary for land and resettlement, while Cde Moses Mikundi (Makoni) took over the role of provincial secretary for economic development and empowerment. Furthermore, Cde Hopewell Muzayeni was co-opted as vice-secretary for indigenisation, while former Makoni DCC chairman, Cde Pheneas Koro, became the new provincial vice-secretary for finance.
Provincial ZANU PF chairman, Cde Tawanda Mukodza confirmed the co-options, saying the vacancies arose due to the passing on or upward movement of some comrades within the PEC.
The new-look party leadership will be in office until 2026.
“These co-options address concerns raised earlier during the meeting about vacant positions in the PEC, particularly the provincial secretary for administration, a key role. With the new executive committee in place, the issue of the party’s provincial leadership in Manicaland is now resolved, and we can focus on the future. The executive’s task is to drive party programmes forward, strengthen and organise party structures, and spearhead development in Manicaland Province,” said Cde Mukodza.
Earlier in the meeting, observant ZANU PF Central Committee member, Cde Shadreck Tongesayi Chipanga, questioned why the party’s provincial secretary for finance was holding dual roles – doubling as the provincial secretary for administration.
“The secretary for administration plays a vital role in ZANU PF, ensuring the party’s smooth operation and implementing its decisions. This role oversees the party’s day-to-day operations, guaranteeing effective functioning of all departments and structures, and why are we continuing delegating such crucial responsibilities,” said Cde Chipanga.
