ZANU PF Mashonaland East Province has resolved that President Mnangagwa must remain in office as President of Zimbabwe and First Secretary of the ruling party, with no internal party elections to be held until 2030.

The resolutions were read by the party’s provincial secretary for legal affairs, Mr Pension Chiutsi, during the provincial coordinating committee meeting held in Goromonzi District yesterday.

These resolutions, agreed upon by all districts in Mashonaland East, were adopted by the province ahead of the party’s People’s Conference scheduled for October in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West.

“On the state of the party, the resolution is that the Secretary of the ZANU PF party and the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Cde E.D. Mnangagwa, remain in office up to 2030. Also, the Constitution of the party should be aligned with the Constitution of Zimbabwe on the seven-year term, following the Constitutional Amendment.

“Another resolution is that no ZANU PF internal elections be held until 2030,” said Cde Chiutsi.

In his remarks, ZANU PF Mashonaland East provincial chairman Cde Daniel Garwe applauded all districts for their resolutions.

“We have started preparations for the 2026 conference. Preparations began at district level and resolutions were presented today. I want to thank you for making these resolutions. I extend my gratitude to the secretary for legal affairs and his team, as well as the administration team, for a job well done.

“As you know, traditionally, ZANU PF holds annual conferences where resolutions from the provinces are tabled. All the resolutions brought forward today will be sent as they are. These resolutions are critical. Remember, it is out of such resolutions that we have what we call Constitution Amendment Act 3. Focus is now on national development,” said Cde Garwe.

He went on to challenge the province to mobilise donations towards the annual conference.

“We are now mobilising resources towards the conference. Those who have made pledges, myself included, please let us honour them. I appeal to you all to donate towards the occasion. Our target for this year is US$70,000, so we must ensure we reach and surpass it.

“We should focus on building our party as a province. President Mnangagwa is on record saying ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’ and, as such, we should also build and support our party. The party is strengthened by us. October is not far, so let us work hard and make our contributions,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cde Garwe urged legislators to remain active in their constituencies.

“To Members of Parliament, you should work hard in your areas. Never relax, thinking you will be in office until 2030. If you relax and stop doing your duties, you will be replaced. This is the time to work. Some of you are continuously giving apologies and failing to attend crucial meetings. We cannot have people giving apologies every time — that must stop.

“You were voted by the people and for the people, so be there and work for the people. Some stopped going back to their constituencies the day they assumed office. Let us stop that,” he said.

He also appealed to everyone to avoid illegal land transactions, commonly known as sabhuku deals, warning that the law would be applied to land barons and those involved in such practices.
