Midlands Bureau
THE results of the Zanu-PF elections for Midlands are expected to be out on Thursday, coordinator of the elections, Dr Olivia Muchena, said yesterday. In an interview, Dr Muchena said the Zanu-PF election process was supposed to commence on Saturday but kicked off on Sunday due to logistical problems that included delays in delivering ballot papers in some areas and the number of districts to be covered.

“We received some material late and in some areas, it was not complete. We will now complete the process on Wednesday and announce the results on Thursday. I am very happy, however, with the manner in which the elections were conducted. They were peaceful, no antagonism.

“It was like we were continuing with the harmonised elections which were peaceful. I want to thank the electorate and the candidates for their good conduct during the election process,” she said.

Dr Muchena said they have completed some of the constituencies while others were still to be completed due to distribution of ballot papers.

Midlands has 28 constituencies. The elections are pitting incumbent provincial chairperson, Cde Jason Machaya against his deputy, Cde Larry Mavima for the chairperson’s post.

In the women’s league, the provincial chairlady, Cde Elina Shirichena retained her post unopposed while in the youth wing, incumbent chairperson, Cde Edmore Samambwa is battling it out with Cde Tanaka Manyadza, the youth wing’s secretary for education in the province.
