Zanu-PF Midlands province aims to raise US$12 000 for Dr Mzee Trust

Midlands Bureau

THE Zanu-PF Midlands provincial executive has set a target to raise US$12  000 to support the works of the late Vice-President Simon Muzenda’s Trust in the community.

The party’s leadership revealed this in a recent meeting where it also deliberated on resource mobilisation strategies ahead of the forthcoming Annual National People’s Conference to be held in Bulawayo next month.

Key fundraising efforts for the national hero’s trust will include a golf tournament scheduled to take place in Gweru later this month.

Zanu-PF Midlands provincial chairperson, Cde Edson Chiherenge, said the province was targeting to raise at least US$12 000 in honour of the late nationalist who died on September 20, 2003 and was buried at the National Heroes Acre.

“We are saying this month of September is very symbolic as it is the month in which our former Vice-President Cde Muzenda died. He was one of us and as such, we saw it prudent to do activities in honour of his sacrifice,” he said.

“We are expected to raise at least US$12 000 that will go to the Trust.”

Cde Chiherenge said a committee has been set up to oversee the fundraising activities.

“I am delighted to announce that a golf tournament will be held later this month where we expect to raise funds from corporates, among other activities,” he said.

Cde Chiherenge also said the meeting discussed the province’s state of preparedness to attend this year’s National People’s Conference.

“A committee has been set up to come up with provincial resolutions that will be presented at the annual indaba,” he said.
