THE Zanu-PF national commissariat has dissolved the Midlands provincial structures following disputes among party officials over the composition of the provincial executive.The decision comes after the Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting, which was meant to iron out some outstanding issues, was abandoned last week after the meeting turned violent.
The party provincial chairman, Cde Jason Machaya, chairperson of the women’s league Cde Elinah Shirichena and the youth chairperson, Cde Edmore Samambwa will be running the party’s provincial affairs until the Politburo meets to map the way forward, a letter from the national political commissar, Cde Webster Shamu, which Chronicle is in possession of stated.
“Following reports of disputes over the composition of the main wing, women’s league and youth league executive committee office bearers, you are hereby directed to repose all authority in the administration of the party in the Midlands to the provincial chair, Cde J Machaya, the chairperson of the women’s league, Cde Elina Shirichena and the youth chairperson, Cde (Edmore) Samambwa,” read part of the letter addressed Cde Machaya.
“The above mentioned triumvirate will remain so until the Politburo meets to discuss the report on the Midlands elections and make its determination,” Cde Shamu stated in the letter.
The move by the commissariat means some party officials who made it in the provincial executive such as the Chiwundura MP Cde Kizito Chivamba (deputy chairman), Cde Cleopas Mupereri (secretary for information), Cde Tapiwa Matangaidze (secretary for administration) and Mberengwa East legislator, Cde Makhosini Hlongwane (political commissar) among others, will have to wait for the Politburo decision to know their fate.
Cde Machaya confirmed having received the letter from the commissariat last night.
“I can confirm having received a letter from the national leadership setting aside the Midlands provincial structures save for that of the chairperson of the province, the chairperson of the women’s league and that of the youth chair,” he said.
“I hope the politburo will meet very soon to deliberate on the matter but what is important is that we should remain united as a province. We want to remain focused for the development of our party and this is what binds us. We want to move forward as a province.”
