THE conference of the Zanu PF War Veterans League originally scheduled to run from tomorrow to Saturday this week has been moved to 9-10 September, Zanu PF national political commissar, Cde Mike Bimha, said yesterday.
Forty positions are up for grabs at the elective conference of the war veterans’ wing.
The provincial war veterans league comprises 40 positions, with the electoral college comprising of all registered veterans league district chairpersons in each province.
The party, Cde Bimha said, is receiving the names of delegates expected at the conference.
“In this regard, the commissariat department is now receiving lists of delegates to be accredited,” he said.
Cde Bimha called upon all the provincial leadership to assist the War Veterans League in the preparations for their conference.
The nomination process in all the provinces, he said, went well without any incidents of violence and intimidation reported.
“In view, of this, I must say that we now have complete party district and provincial structures of the War Veterans League. Only Harare province could not hold its provincial elections over the weekend due to technical hitches,” said Cde Bimha.
Bulawayo province elected Cde Cephas Ncube as the provincial chairman of the wing, Manicaland Cde Martin Matathu, Mashonaland East Cde Daniel Matengo, Mashonaland West Cde Happison Muchechetere, Matabeleland North Cde Sonny Mguni, Matabeleland South Cde Alfred Moyo, Masvingo Cde Gibson Mashingaidze and Midlands Cde Amos Mapingire.
Meanwhile, Zanu PF has intensified its campaign to win the Gokwe-Kabuyani by-election which will be held this weekend.
Cde Bimha said the party has deployed senior party leadership and officials of the War Veterans League, Women’s League, Youth League, and affiliate organisations to canvass for votes and ensure a resounding victory for the party candidate, Cde Spencer Tshuma.
