ZANU-PF should take a leading role in reviving the economy and ensure that there is unity of purpose for the nation to achieve Vision 2030, Zanu-PF secretary for Business Development and Liaison Sithembiso Nyoni has said.
Further, Cde Nyoni said, the ruling party should not allow economic saboteurs to dictate the direction that the country should take.
She made the remarks while officiating at the Zanu-PF capacity building workshop for secretaries for business development and liaison, production and labour departments in Harare yesterday.
The two-day workshop incorporates party provincial secretaries in the departments.
“His Excellency, the First Secretary of Zanu-PF Cde E.D Mnangagwa came up with Vision 2030 that seeks to transform the country into an Upper Middle Class Economy.
“As the ruling party, we must prioritise reviving this economy and make every effort to achieve Vision 2030, we must not allow economic saboteurs to dissuade us from achieving that vision,” she said.
“In his inauguration speech, the President talked about poverty alleviation, delivering and productivity, unity of purpose, ending corruption and economic development, so as a party we are fulfilling all those areas.
“Our President is very clear on the issue of ending poverty in Zimbabwe, and as a party we must make sure our people are empowered economically and we encourage you all to go and embark on empowerment programmes, our department will be there to help you financially and with expertise,” she said.
She encouraged youth and women to start small-scale businesses especially in agriculture saying there are ready markets for agriculture produce outside Zimbabwe and that her department will link them with those markets.
In his remarks Zanu-PF secretary for Administration Cde Obert Mpofu concurred with Cde Nyoni and called on party members to embrace the empowerment initiative and show the world that Zimbabwe is a great country.
Cde Mpofu said the nation has been under sanctions for a long time, but the ruling party should not fold its hands, but rather vigorous pursue implementation of economic measures to revive the economy.
He challenged Zimbabweans to come up with constructive ideas that will drive the economy forward.
Meanwhile, the ruling party pledged to assist local fertiliser producer Windmill (Pvt) Limited to overcome its challenges to enable it to operate at full capacity, which is key to turning around the country’s economy.
Deputy national commissar Cde Omega Hungwe led a delegation that toured the company’s plant in Harare yesterday.
Addressing journalists after the tour, Cde Hungwe said the ruling party wanted to ensure that the company continues to produce fertilisers and creating more jobs for the people.
