ZANU-PF Bulawayo’s Youth League yesterday elected four members to represent the province in the league’s national elective congress to be held in Harare this week.Each of the country’s 10 provinces is expected to come up with four candidates that will contest for positions in the national youth executive during the congress.
The peaceful elections held at the party’s provincial headquarters in Bulawayo, Davies Hall, saw Cde Mpehlabayo Malinga and Cde Butholezwe Ngwenya elected unopposed.
As was planned, the elections were conducted with no singing and brandishing of placards and the candidates did not bring their supporters to the venue.
Cde Myra Ngozo was also elected unopposed. Cde Sibongile Sibanda was elected after beating Cde Anna Makgohloa by 70 to 40 votes.
The four were elected by district chairpersons representing Bulawayo suburbs grouped as areas 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Addressing the youths after the elections, Zanu-PF provincial chairman Cde Callistus Ndlovu congratulated the winners and urged them to work for the interests of the people.
“We are done with electing members from the Youth League that will represent the province in the national executive and central committee. We have all worked and I would like to congratulate those that have been elected and those that voted.
“To those elected, you are there to serve the interests of the people not your own personal interests. Your election means you have been selected to work with the people and as you are the future leaders you have to be highly dignified,” he said.
“I am glad that the election was peaceful and we hope that those elected will work well with us and as a province as we don’t discriminate people.”
Zanu-PF politburo member Dr Sikhanyiso Ndlovu observed the elections.
Other party officials from the province attended the event.
The process to elect party officials ahead of the conference from all the provinces ended yesterday.
Matabeleland South voted on Saturday. Cdes Eveline Mpofu, Nkosinomusa Langa, Lesly Ncube and Fuluselo Muleya emerged as the four candidates who will represent the province at the national conference.
Matabeleland North province was supposed to hold its provincial conference yesterday in Lupane where four candidates for the national conference were also expected to be elected.
The leadership could not be reached for the results yesterday.
Elsewhere, some of the approved candidates to stand in the Youth League elections are Cdes Mike Gava from Mashonaland West, Tafadzwa Dhererai Shumba (Masvingo), Anastaciah Ndlovu (Midlands), Varaidzo Mupunga (Harare), Admire Mahachi (Manicaland), Tongai Kasukuwere and Tabitha Kanengoni-Malianga (Mashonaland Central).
Approved candidates in the Women’s League include Cdes Tsitsi Mandisodza (Harare), Jane Knight Mabuto, Monica Mutsvangwa and Nyasha Chikwinya (Manicaland), among others.
Candidates from Mashonaland Central include Cde Dorothy Kadungure, Cde Alice Muropa and Cde Stella Muchapindwa while in Mashonaland East, candidates include Cde Olivia Muchena and Cde Marbel Nkatazo.
Some of the candidates from Mashonaland West are Cde Sarah Mahoka, Cde Caroline Tsitsi Mugabe while those from Masvingo include Cdes Shuvai Mahofa and Shylet Uyoyo.
Those from Matabeleland North include Cdes Thokozile Mathuthu and Bertha Mudenda while from Matabeleland South there are Cdes Tambudzani Mohadi and Abigail Damasane among others. Cdes Flora Buka and Danisa Mujere are some of the candidates from Midlands.
