EVERYTHING was in place for the Zanu-PF provincial elections set to be held in the remaining seven provinces today with teams conducting the polls already deployed at polling stations. Team leaders, drawn from the Politburo, said teams and voting material were already at the respective districts.
The elections for the main wing, women’s league and youth league would be held in Bulawayo, Harare, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Masvingo, Matabeleland North and South from 7am-7pm.
The elections would be conducted using a secret ballot at party district level where at least 102 members in each district are expected to cast their ballots for leaders of their choice.
Cde Dzikamai Mavhaire who supervises polls in Mashonaland West said his team held a successful meeting with the leadership in the province to spell out logistical arrangements.
“All the material has already been disbursed to the districts and they are now at all the polling stations,” he said last night.
“Everyone is aware of the candidates and the polling stations. It is well organised because everyone who is supposed to be involved have done their part.
“We had a bit of problems in transport but the local leadership quickly chipped in with vehicles. So everything is in order now. Come 7am tomorrow, if someone gets to the polling station they will be able to vote.”
Incumbent chairperson Cde John Mafa, squares off against former chairperson Cde Phillip Chiyangwa, Hurungwe West MP Cde Themba Mliswa, Cdes Nimrod Chiminya and Blessed Geza.
Bulawayo team leader, Cde Ignatius Chombo said his team had a meeting with the senior leadership in the province.
“Everything is in place. We have the presiding and returning officers in place. Vehicles and the voting material are in place. We will be distributing the material tomorrow morning before voting starts,” said Cde Chombo.
Current chairperson Professor Callistus Ndlovu is being challenged by his deputy Cde Killian Sibanda and Cde Douglas Ndlovu.
Mashonaland East team leader Cde Obert Mpofu said: “We had a meeting with the local leadership. It went well. We had maximum co-operation from the provincial members through their chairperson Cde Ray Kaukonde. All the Central Committee members also assured us that they would co-operate in form of assistance not interference.
“In terms of logistics, we have the voters’ roll, ballot papers and supervisors in place. So we are ready to go.”
Cde Kaukonde would fight it out against Cde Phillemon Mutongi.
Matabeleland North team leader Cde Sydney Sekeramayi said his team was deploying members to the respective districts.
Incumbent chairperson, Cde Richard Moyo would battle it out against his deputy Cde Reeds Dube.
Harare province elections team led by Cde Sikhanyiso Ndlovu yesterday met candidates and the provincial leadership where Cde Ndlovu called for peaceful and credible elections.
“We are brothers and sisters and comrades in the struggle, the war was not only done by the guerillas but also those at home,” he said.
Cde Amos Midzi is contesting with Cde Jason Passade, Cde Rex Maketo, Cde Forbes Magada and Cde Justice Zvandasara who was arrested.
Cde Midzi urged voters to vote for experience while promising to garner more votes for the party in the 2018 elections.
Cde Passade said if he was voted into power he would unite the province and build the party structures so as to effectively campaign for votes in 2018.
Cde Maketo said for the past 15 years the party had not been able to drum up enough support in Harare hence he needed a chance to lead the province.
Cde Magada said he would be able to drum up enough support for the party in Harare.
Matabeleland South team leader Cde David Parirenyatwa said; “We are already on the road. We are raring to go. Things are in order. We have been given accessories that are needed. Logistics seem to be in place.”
Incumbent chairperson Cde Andrew Langa would be fighting it out against Cde Lloyd Siyoka and Cde Phumuza Ndlovu.
In Masvingo Chiredzi North MP, Cde Robert Mukwena would fight it out against Rtd Brigadier General Callisto Gwanetsa who is Chiredzi South legislator and former legislator in the same constituency Cde Ailes Baloyi.
Also contesting for the provincial chairperson’ post in the same province is Retired Major Benard Mazarire.
Cde Nicholas Goche will supervise the polls in the province.
