ZANU-PF has re-conducted the Midlands provincial elections in Gweru urban, Mtapa and Mkoba due to irregularities and logistical challenges encountered during the initial electoral process conducted on Saturday.
The elections were successfully re-conducted yesterday in the respective areas.
Zanu-PF political commissar in the Women’s League, Dr Olivia Muchena, who is presiding over the elections, said there were a few shortcomings that characterised the electoral process in Gweru that saw the party resolve to re-conduct the elections in the affected areas.
“We realised that a lot of people and candidates who participated in the provincial elections felt short-changed by the shortcomings that characterised the electoral process. In some instances, candidates were omitted from the ballot papers while in some areas ballot papers were delivered late due to logistical challenges,” he said.
Dr Muchena said the revolutionary party was rectifying the mistakes that were made during the Saturday elections.
She said despite a few challenges encountered, the provincial election voting process was successfully conducted in all the province’s 28 constituencies.
Dr Muchena said the results would be announced today.
Incumbent provincial chairman, Cde Jason Machaya who is seeking to retain his post is facing his deputy, Cde Larry Mavhima while Cde Edmore Samambwa is battling it out with Cde Tanaka Manyadza for the provincial youth wing chairpersonship.
