In an interview, the provincial chairperson, Cde Lovemore Matuke, said the revolutionary party was ready to reclaim the seats it lost to MDC-T in the 2008 plebiscite.
He said the party has been motivated by the resolving of the impasse in constitution-making by the principals in the inclusive Government.
Last week, the three principals President Mugabe, Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai and Deputy Prime Minister Professor Arthur Mutambara, met at State House and resolved all sticking issues, paving the way for a referendum. The new constitution will also give room for the holding of elections.
“Our party is a party of excellence and this time we want to silence our detractors by posting landslide victories in all areas that we will contest. We have completed the membership audit in all districts and our membership is aware of what we are expecting. The resolution of outstanding issues in the constitution-making is a welcome development to the party,” he said.
He said the provincial executive would not be dissolved now adding that restructuring will be done at grassroots structures.
“Restructuring of the party will be done in the grassroots structures only and not the provincial executive. I want to set the record straight that contrary to claims from some sections of the so-called independent media, there is not going to be any restructuring of the provincial committee. We are only going to use the principle of ascendancy where we will co-opt members where there are gaps due to attrition. Some members have been moved to the Central Committee and left their positions vacant,” he said.
Meanwhile, national political commissar Cde Webster Shamu has called upon members of the party to shun factionalism and hatred.
Addressing the provincial executive council in Masvingo last week, Cde Shamu, who is also Media, Information and Publicity Minister, said members should desist from sowing seeds of hatred among themselves and work for the party to win resoundingly in the forthcoming elections.
The Zanu-PF provincial executive council comprises all three wings of the party — youth, women and main wings with 34 members each.
“We should shun factionalism in party structures so that we can reclaim the lost seats. We should have unity of purpose and love each other as party members. Elections are definitely going to be held soon,” he said.
