Zanu-PF regaining its support base in Bulawayo

In an interview last Friday soon after addressing journalists at the Bulwayo Press club, the party’s provincial chairman, Cde Killian Sibanda, said the party is set to reclaim all its lost seats that are in the hands of MDC formations in Bulawayo province come election time.

He said that since Zanu-PF launched its economic blueprint of “Indigenise, Develop, Empower and Create Employment” many supporters, among them youths began to come back and rejoin the party, with membership cards being sold out in several wards in the province.

“Our supporters have realised that MDC formations have failed them for more than a decade without witnessing any developments, with a lot of industries closing down rendering many youths jobless in Bulawayo.

“We are set to recapitalise most of the standstill projects in Bulawayo through our economic blueprints and reclaim all the seats we had lost to opposition formations.

“As Zanu-PF we have come up with several economic strategies, among them is recapitalisation of industries in Bulawayo and the Community Share Ownership Schemes under indigenisation programme, which have since benefited a lot of communities countrywide,” said Cde Sibanda.

Cde Sibanda said in 2011 thousands of people in Bulawayo province signed the anti-sanctions petition, a clear sign of the rejection of the MDC which called for them.

“Statistics of the 2011 anti-sanctions petition revealed that over 80 000 people in Bulawayo province petitioned for the lifting of sanctions that were imposed in the country at the behest of MDC-T party and this is a clear sign that people are up against the opposition party,” added Cde Sibanda.

Zanu-PF Central Committee member, Cde Godfrey Malaba, added that since independence Bulawayo used to enjoy industrial development and better service delivery under the Zanu-PF leadership.

He said when MDC formations took over councils everything started to deteriorate.

“Since independence, Bulawayo was the hub of the country’s industries and the city used to enjoy excellent service delivery system under the Zanu-PF leadership. When the opposition parties took over they failed to deliver, with industries and many developmental projects which we left for them to finish still incomplete. The people of Bulawayo have realised that the opposition parties failed them hence they are coming back to rejoin their party, Zanu-PF.

“If people started talking of de-industrialisation in Bulawayo you should know who is in charge and who is the Minister of Industry and Commerce and where is he coming from,” added Cde Malaba.
