Whilst one columnist within the Zimpapers newspaper outfit, the Sunday Mail, by the pseudonym, Bishop Lazarus, gave Cde Tyson, the moniker for Zanu (PF) Political Commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere, gave him advice that the whole nation is watching him as he continues with the ongoing restructuring exercise of the party.
The columnist, Bishop Lazarus, touched one fundamental aspect, that of ensuring that the party a combative nationalist movement ready to defend the gains achieved this far by the revolution and even breaking new ground for the revolutionary party as the resource nationalism agenda gather momentum in the country, region, the continent and the progressive world. Like any other organisation, ZANU-PF has rules and regulations that are sacrosanct that guide it in the conduct of such processes such as restructuring. They have to be religiously followed.
Out of that noble process, the party is expected to emerge robust and solid.
The restructuring exercise has to be expeditiously undertaken, making sure that the head counting of people is done to ensure that the numbers are there. Lets not forget that the game of politics is number based, hence a political entity without the requisite numbers risk extinction.
Cde Kasukuwere has the onerous responsibility to ensure that the famed millions of supporters are indeed there on the ground.
The existence of solid structures on the ground will then create a platform for the luring of new supporters to the revolution. It is critical that the people decide who should lead them in those structures. It was refreshing to hear, the Senate President, Edina Madzongwe on national television, ZTV, reaffirming the importance of the general populace voting for people of their choice, participating in the election of people who lead them. That way, sense of ownership of the party prevails for ZANU-PF is the people’s party, the effective instrument for engendering their whims and aspirations.
They are pending by-elections in various constituencies in the country, some created after the elevation of former Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Emmerson Mnangagwa to the Vice President posts, the ascendancy of the now disgraced former Vice President Joice Mujuru, some constituencies are there due to the natural occurrences of death and some are vacant after former legislators were expelled from their former parties as is the case with the humiliated Didymus Edwin Noel Mutasa and his problematic and garrulous nephew, Themba Mliswa.
The duo of Mutasa and Mliswa were the law unto themselves and perceived themselves as bigger than the party, feats only the stupid and naïve could perpetrate.
It is in this by-elections that ZANU-PF will put to the test its machinery prior to the harmonised plebiscite in 2018. Of course, those familiar to the rugged political terrain of Zimbabwe will testify that the ZANU-PF juggernaut is unstoppable and is well oiled and poised to win any election anytime and on any date.
Whilst that is the reality, the revolutionary party has to continue perfecting its art in the complex and interesting game of politics.
There are those who had followed the putschist cabal led by the disgraced former Vice President, Joice Mujuru, there is need for their rehabilitation, for them to understand the trajectory which the party, ZANU-PF, is taking in its bid to consolidate its political hegemony.
They have to understand that the revolutionary party has only one centre of power, all the authority is reposed in His Excellency, the First Secretary and President, Cde Robert Mugabe.
All the ideas emanating from the general membership and the leadership have to feed into President Mugabe’s great vision for the party and country as espoused in the revolutionary economic blueprint, the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainability Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset).
Fortunately, the party, ZANU-PF has a dynamic cadre, endowed with vigour and energy, in the form of Cde Kasukuwere, who leads this crucial entity, the Commissariat Department.
Given that the youthful minister is known for cracking the whip on errant officials in the ministry he has so far superintended, it is the expectation of the masses who have entrusted him with these crucial assignment that has become the norm with him, this assignment will be diligently executed.
Ensuring that the party structures are compact prior to the 2018 elections will guarantee the revolutionary party its dominance in the political sphere of the nation.
It is only noble for the restructuring exercise to be undertaken now to ensure vibrancy as the party traverse into the future with optimism.
