national registration database centre in Harare.
A party delegation led by national chairman Cde Simon Khaya-Moyo visited the centre to get an appreciation of the entire work of the RG from the compilation of the voters roll, processing of birth and death certificates, national identity cards and citizenship applications.
The RG Mr Tobaiwa Mudede and senior officials in his office took the delegation through the tour, which was requested by Zanu-PF.
Cde Khaya-Moyo commended the RG’s Office for the work it was doing and said political leaders should make informed statements when commenting about the department’s work. MDC formations have been claiming that the voters’ roll was in shambles with names of deceased persons or those below 18 who are ineligible to vote.
“We must avoid being extravagant with words as leaders without checking facts. We must assist the RG’s Office with any information which can keep our records updated. It will prove some of these allegations are far fetched.

“As Zanu-PF we are impressed by the operations here. Detractors will always be there but with our situation, they are even more pronounced because some agenda is at play,” said Cde Khaya Moyo. Last week, Mr Mudede told a Press conference in Harare that the voters’ roll was clean and his office was ready to accept anyone wishing to inspect it. Zanu-PF took up the initiative and the party’s delegation was taken on a tour of the national registration database centre. The centre keeps information of all Zimbabweans such that when one enters their national registration number into the computer system, all their information can be traced. Mr
Mudede said names of deceased persons could only be removed from the voters’ roll once his office has been notified of the death and registers the death.
He said some people die in the villages where village heads issue burial orders but relatives are required to visit their offices to be issued with a death certificate. Some relatives do not bother to get the death certificate because the deceased would have left nothing to inherit. However, Mr Mudede said his department was sending teams into all the districts to issue death certificates. Relatives of the deceased people will have to undertake that the person died and the RG’s Office will cross check the information with the traditional leaders.
Mr Mudede said every Zimbabwean, including political parties and any other interested organisations, have the right to request and be taken on a tour of the database centre so that they can appreciate his office works.
