Zanu-PF seeks $3m for annual conference

ZANU-PF has intensified efforts to raise $3 million required for the successful hosting of the party’s 14th Annual National People’s Conference set for Chinhoyi from 10-15 December this year with a dinner dance pencilled in for this Friday.
Party spokesperson, Cde Rugare Gumbo, yesterday told journalists that Vice-President Joice Mujuru would be the guest of honour at the dinner dance.

The event run by the national fund-raising committee would be held at the Harare International Conference Centre’s VIP lounge from 6pm.

He said those willing to attend the dinner would have to pay for tables.

“Platinum is $100 000, gold is $50 000, silver is $30 000, bronze is $10 000 and general is $2 000. Individual tickets will be selling at $200,” said Cde Gumbo who was flanked by deputy secretary for finance Cde Charles Tawengwa and a member of the fund-raising committee Cde Felix Mhona.

Cde Gumbo said contact people are Cdes Goodson Nguni, Mhona, Pamela Chitupa and other designated cadres.

Cde Tawengwa said everyone who donated towards the event should ask for a genuine receipt from the party.

He said some people were illegally selling party regalia.

To that end, Cde Gumbo said no one would be allowed to sell Zanu-PF regalia during the conference without approval from the Department of Information and Publicity.

Cde Gumbo said there would be a business exhibition expo during the conference. Those willing to exhibit, Cde Gumbo said, would have to contact the same people.

“The Chinhoyi exhibition expo in Mashonaland West Province will be held at the Chinhoyi Municipality Park. Dates will be from 12-15 December, during the conference.

“Prices of stands; 3 by 3 square metres will be $3 000, 6 by 3 square metres will be $7 000. The exhibition expo may be opened by His Excellency. We intend that when he has finished planting the tree as he always does, then perhaps he can open the business expo,” said Cde Gumbo.

Cde Mhona said a number of companies were expected to exhibit at the conference.

“Quite a number of companies have shown interest in exhibiting and I am sure with our indigenisation policy, we have got a number of items that are being produced locally. This is the platform to actually come and exhibit. Everybody is free to come even from the small traders up to our corporates,” said Cde Mhona.

Cde Tawengwa added: “Those in the agriculture sector have shown interest in exhibiting. In the past, they have been exhibiting at our shows and this year we also have big companies with big equipment who have shown interest. Firms dealing with seeds mainly and fertiliser, will also be exhibiting their wares in Chinhoyi.”

Initially, the party had planned to construct its multi-million dollar conference centre in Chinhoyi before December.

Tents are now expected to be pitched up at Chinhoyi University of Technology after realising that the host province could not complete the construction work on time.
It is understood that the party asked all provinces to raise at least $50 000 or more towards hosting of the conference.
