ZANU PF’s Harare Province has set sights on mobilising at least one million supporters by the end of 2026, signalling a major push to reclaim the capital as a ruling party stronghold.
Provincial chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa revealed the target yesterday, noting that the province was undergoing a massive “reinvigoration” following the co-option of prominent businessman Cde Kudakwashe Tagwirei into the ZANU PF Central Committee.
Speaking on the province’s renewed energy and positivism, Cde Masimirembwa credited President Mnangagwa’s leadership of allowing Dr Tagwirei to work with Harare Province.
“We are focused on popularising our President, our party, and its policies,” Cde Masimirembwa said. “We thank His Excellency for permitting Dr Tagwirei to work with Harare province. This province had been infiltrated by the opposition we are certain that with the coming in of Dr Tagwirei and the empowerment policies will have more new membership in our Province. You can see our strategies are working; people are coming in droves from the opposition, and those who were inactive have returned in full force.
“Those within Zanu PF who were no longer that active have now come back. They’ve now come back to the party in full force. So that is our story as a Harare metropolitan province.
“We start 2026 with greater optimism that the party will grow. Our target is to grow the party membership in Harare to not less than one million by the end of this year.”
To accommodate this growth, the province will launch an intensive cell verification and renewal programme next week
“As we embark now on a cell renewal programme, which we do every year.
Now, we are holding our Provincial Executive Committee on this Friday. Then on Sunday we will hold our joint Provincial Council meeting, that is all the provincial members. Thereafter, we are in the field. We are going to go district by district and we are confident that we will more than double the number of cells which we have in Harare metropolitan. Our cells were just over 8 500. We are expecting to get to between 17 000 and 20 000 cells.”
He also said that Cde Tagwireyi has always preached peace from day one.
“We are glad that he has never been divisive in whatever he has done so far. He has only spoken things which are consistent with Zanu PF motto, unity, peace and development and nothing else.
“And when you look at his words, if you listen to his speeches, all of them are centred on popularising Zanu PF. They are centred on the people’s resolution that his excellency should remain in office beyond 2028, up to 2030, because of the good works that he has done. So we completely agree with the senior leadership of the party that what we must do in every province is to seek unity, peace and development.”
He also commended Cde Tagwireyi for consistently preaching peace and uniting the province since day one.
“We are pleased that he has never been divisive in his actions. Everything he has said remains consistent with the ZANU-PF motto: Unity, Peace, and Development.
“When you listen to his speeches, they are entirely centred on popularizing ZANU PF. They focus on the people’s resolution that His Excellency should remain in office beyond 2028— extending to 2030 — due to the exceptional work he has accomplished. Therefore, we completely agree with the party’s senior leadership; our goal in every province must be to pursue unity, peace, and development.”
