The ruling Zanu-PF has crafted a number of policies to accelerate infrastructural development in most rural communities, a senior party official has said.
Addressing hundreds of Zion Apostolic Faith Mission Church (ZAFMC) members in Chikombedzi yesterday Cde Titus Maluleke said President Mnangagwa’s administration was development-oriented and would respond to the people’s needs as and when they arise.
He said rural development was among the major issues contained in the Zanu-PF 2018 elections manifesto.
Cde Maluleke said he had noted the developmental issues and challenges raised by the church through its spokesperson Mr Leonard Makondo.
“President Mnangagwa is a listening President. I would like to promise you that after winning resoundingly in the July 30 elections, we are going to see development flowing to all corners of the country,” he said.
“The party’s manifesto clearly spelt out rural development as an integral party in the next five years.
“Rural electrification, expansion of the mobile and telecommunications coverage is already underway under the Zim Digital programme. You will note that here in Chikombedzi you will have a transmitter.
“On land development we are going to utilise the Tugwi Mukosi Dam to put 25000ha under irrigation.”
Speaking during the same gathering Chiredzi South Member of Parliament Cde Kalisto Gwanetsa said Zanu-PF was already seized in rolling out developmental projects in the area.
“So far we have managed to repair and upgrade roads which were impassable. In addition, we are now working on the construction of Chilonga Bridge, which has become a perennial headache for villagers and motorists every rainy season.
“By giving Zanu-PF another term we promise you nothing other than coordinated development which starts from the councillor, MPs and President Mnangagwa,” said Cde Gwanetsa.
ZAFMC spokesperson, Mr Makondo said the congregation had lined up a number of economic development programmes and wanted to roll out some of the initiatives.
He said they were looking at projects including cattle fattening and horticulture.
“We need a farm to undertake massive developmental projects that will see us helping widows and orphans in need. Our area has a poor mobile network coverage and in that regard, we kindly request for the President to help us to address that matter.”
