Zanu-PF to set rules for primaries

would guide the holding of primary elections ahead of harmonised national elections set for March 2013. The party’s spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo said the meeting would also consider the dates and theme for the 13thAnnual National People’s Conference set for Gweru next month.

“We are working on guidelines on how to conduct primary elections.
“The guidelines will provide mechanisms dealing with such issues as the imposition of candidates, which was being caused by factionalism,” Cde Gumbo said.

He, however, indicated that the party had not yet finished drafting the guidelines.
Cde Gumbo said a mobilisation team headed by Zanu-PF secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa was also expected to play an important role in uniting the party to ensure victory in the upcoming polls.

Turning to the conference, the Zanu-PF spokesman said all was on course though they had not yet set the dates.

“Conference preparations are well on course and we are going to deliberate on the conference venue.”

The conference, which will be like a de facto congress coming as it does a few months before the crucial polls, is expected to attract over 5 000 delegates drawn from the party’s 10 provinces.

A new ultra-modern conference venue, valued at US$6,5 million is under construction, 15km from town along the Gweru-Mvuma Road.
