PRESIDENT Mnangagwa’s development-focused agenda is resonating deeply with Zanu PF structures in Harare, bolstering party morale as the nation prepares for the launch of the next five-year economic blueprint, the National Development Strategy 2.
The growing confidence in the President’s vision was the central theme at a recent Zanu PF inter-district meeting held at Dzivarasekwa Stadium, where party leaders and members gathered to reflect on the outcomes of the recent 22nd Annual People’s Conference.
Zanu PF Secretary for Education, Research and Ideology, Cde Charles Tawengwa, said delegates at the Conference, held in Mutare, unanimously endorsed the move for President Mnangagwa to remain in office until 2030.
The objective, he said, is to ensure the President completes the transformative work he has begun.
“We now have a clear plan for Vision 2030, focusing on transforming the economy into an upper-middle-income economy,” Cde Tawengwa told the attentive crowd.
He highlighted the Government’s strategic prioritisation of major dam construction, such as the ongoing Gwai-Shangani and Kunzvi projects, as a cornerstone for achieving national food security.
He noted that completed dams like Chivhu and Muchekerenwa are already set to improve irrigation and access to clean water for towns and cities.
Cde Tawengwa pointed to tangible success stories of the Second Republic. He cited the modernised Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, a project designed to boost tourism, and the extensive rehabilitation of key roads like the Harare-Beitbridge highway by local companies.
The Government’s fight against drug and substance abuse through the establishment of rehabilitation centres was also underscored as a critical stride.
The meeting also served as a stage for showcasing substantial grassroots investment from within the party.
The newly co-opted Central Committee member, Dr Kudakwashe Tagwirei, launched a US$200,000 revolving fund for party wings and pledged to drill 80 solarised boreholes in the area.
Through his Bridging Gap Foundation, Dr Tagwirei’s community initiatives include the distribution of thousands of Christmas hampers, wheelchairs, and the construction of five maternity wards.
In a major announcement set to transform local commerce, he revealed plans to develop the Golden Quarry Market into a bustling complex featuring a bus terminus, 2,500 market stalls, and 600 retail shops, with Fossil Company providing free labour for the construction.
The gathering culminated in a symbolic display of the party’s reclaiming influence, as returnees from opposition parties, including former Zanu PF Youth Political Commissar Cde Godfrey Tsenengamu, were welcomed back into the fold, signalling a unifying political momentum ahead of the new development phase.
