ZANU PF Mashonaland East Province has vowed to work tirelessly to win back the Marondera Central constituency seat, which had been held by the opposition.
The seat fell vacant after National Assembly representative Caston Matewu was recalled from Parliament by Mr Douglas Mwonzora’s MDC T party.
On Monday, the ZANU PF Mashonaland East Provincial executive lead by chairman, Cde Daniel Garwe, officially launched the campaign programme for Marondera Central and Marondera East by-elections at Rudhaka Stadium, where thousands of the revolutionary party’s supporters gathered in a show of massive support.
In addition to the two vacant National Assembly seats, there are six vacant seats for local authorities.
The Marondera East seat fell vacant following the death of Cde Patrick Chidhakwa (ZANU PF) last year.
Cde Ignatius Mateveke will represent ZANU PF in Marondera Central while Cde Jeremiah Chiwetu will represent the revolutionary party in Marondera East.
Addressing party supporters, Cde Garwe said nothing would stop ZANU PF from winning in the by-elections and the 2023 general elections.
Cde Garwe said the ruling party will resoundingly reclaim the Marondera Central constituency seat.
He added that through unity of purpose and hard work, ZANU PF will sail through.
Cde Garwe went on to appeal to the public to register to vote.
Provincial Women’s League Chair, Senator Aplonia Munzverengwi, said the days of opposition popularity are over in Marondera and the House of Assembly seat is going back to ZANU PF.
She added that even the local authorities’ seats which were once won by the opposition should come back to the people’s party.
“Let us all rally behind our candidates. We have Cde Mateveke in Marondera Central and Cde Chiwetu in Marondera East.
“We will certainly win. Let us work hard as a province. The Women’s League is ready to be deployed to work for the party. We must make sure our party wins resoundingly.”
Cde Tinoda Machakaire, the provincial party commissar, appealed to Marondera residents to vote for the ruling party’s candidates.
He also called for the party supporters to exercise high level of discipline and to be focused.
“We are here to ask for your vote and to you the candidates, when you are in office, be the servants of the people. Work for the people and shun all forms of corruption.”
