Zanu PF legislator for Seke Constituency Cde Munyaradzi Kashambe has issued a strong warning to officials tasked with distribution of Pfumvudza/Intwasa inputs to desist from corrupt tendencies.
Pfumvudza was initiated by Government to increase rural household incomes and boost national food security, but some elements among the teams tasked with inputs distribution are derailing the noble programme.
Speaking on the sidelines of three Hwiridza siblings’ burial, who died after a hut they were sleeping in caught fire, held in Dema on Tuesday this week, Cde Kashambe said the corrupt officials were sabotaging the programme.
“President Mnangagwa said Pfumvudza inputs will be distributed to all wards for free and people will collect from distribution centres in their wards,” he said. “Not even a single cent should be paid by parents or beneficiaries towards that because all has been paid by the Government, including transport.
“I don’t want to hear some officials in our constituencies demanding some money purportedly for ‘logistics’ or money for stationary. What is that money for? They start asking as little as $10 or $20 until that money is increased to US$1.
“Because of that, some beneficiaries who do not have money will end up not getting the inputs.
“These alleged corrupt people are sabotaging the Presidential programme. These inputs are for free.”
Cde Kashambe urged all beneficiaries not to hesitate to contact his office or the police if officials mandated with the distribution of these inputs demanded any form of payment before one collected their share.
“Imagine, for example, a single ward may have up to a thousand beneficiaries and if they are charged a dollar each, this means the alleged corrupt officials will have received US$1 000,” he said. “But for what purpose? That is a lot of money.
“That corruption which is allegedly happening in various wards should stop henceforth.
“To parents, let me urge you to refuse to pay anyone who come to you and ask for logistical money connected to the distribution of Pfumvudza Inputs.
“Secondly, let me know, as your MP, so that I will deal decisively with those officials engaging in that. What they are doing is making beneficiaries to lose interest in this programme. They are decampaigning this programme”.
Recently, the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission issued a warning to teams tasked with distribution of these inputs to desist from corruption, saying they will soon be arrested.
