launch of the 21st February Movement Fundraising Committee in Harare yesterday, Zanu-PF Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Absolom Sikhosana said the revolutionary party was not going to tolerate people who tarnish the image of the party.
He was responding to concerns raised by some party youths who said previous experience had shown that some people personalised proceeds from the donations they would have solicited without the leadership’s blessings.
“We want to have it as tight as possible because we don’t want to bring the name of the movement into disrepute.
“In order to instill confidence in the exercise only those who have been identified will spearhead the fundraising. This year’s fundraising committee will be chaired by Cde Johnson Masawi while each of the 10 provinces is expected to have one focal point co-ordinating the fundraising.
The committee, Cde Sikhosana said, was expected to raise at least US$600 000 for the celebrations to be successful. Mashonaland Central is the host province and celebrations will be held in Bindura on March 2.
The 21st February Movement celebrations are held to introspect and recognise the well-documented life of President Robert Gabriel Mugabe, who was born on February 21 in 1924.
