Zanu-PF wins Gokwe South Ward 11 by-elections

Zanu-PF candidate Cde Jonas Kutanho romped to victory in the Gokwe South Rural District Council Ward 11 local authority by-elections held on Saturday. Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s Midlands Provincial Officer Mrs Dorcas Mpofu told Chronicle yesterday that Cde Mutonho polled 1 243 votes against Mr Victor Nsingo of MDC-T who garnered only 340 votes.

She said Mr Mike Pawarikanda of MDC got 42 votes.

The ward 11 seat fell vacant after the death of the previous candidate died on the day of the harmonised elections on 31 July, after winning the election.

“There were only three parties which participated in the by-election. The voting process went on peacefully,” said Mrs Mpofu.
