Zanu-PF candidate Cde George Gangarahwe romped to an emphatic victory in the Mhondoro-Mubaira by-election at the weekend, beating his little-known rival from the Freedom Front Party Mr Rodwell Nyanganya. Cde Gangarahwe polled 13 934 votes against Mr Nyanganya’s 1 056 votes. The Mhondoro-Mubaira constituency seat fell vacant, after the expulsion and subsequent recall from Parliament of Cde Sylvester Nguni. Cde Nguni garnered 10 153 votes in the 2013 harmonised polls with MDC-T candidate managing 4 473 and MDC polling 847 votes.
Zanu-PF provincial chairman Cde Ephraim Chengeta, said the victory was a sign that the party’s policies resonated well with the electorate. “We are happy as a party that we have won resoundingly. We have improved from the last elections which gives us hope for the future,” said Cde Chengeta.
“This shows that our policies and ideals as a party are being well received by the electorate.” Cde Chengeta said people now realised the truth that the opposition had nothing to offer adding that the party was confident of victory in the 2018 Harmonised elections. Zanu-PF has swept all by-elections conducted in recent months.
The opposition MDC-T and other smaller parties have been boycotting elections, gifting Zanu-PF clean sweep of all the constituencies.
