ZANU-PF’s Cde Joshua Moyo is the new Member of Parliament for Mwenezi East constituency after he filed his nomination papers unopposed for the vacant seat at the nomination court sitting at Masvingo Magistrates’ Court yesterday. Announcing the results of the nomination, Masvingo’s Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) provincial elections officer, Zex Zirabada Pudurayi, said Cde Moyo – previously the Mwenezi Ward 13 councillor -was the only candidate who submitted his nomination papers to the nomination court which opened from 10AM to 4PM.

“Since morning, we had one candidate who submitted his papers for Mwenezi East constituency by-election and that candidate is Joshua Moyo of Zanu-PF. What it means is that Moyo has been duly elected National Assembly member for the vacant Mwenezi East constituency with effect from September, 19, 2015,” said Pudurayi.

He said the nomination court was open from morning to evening, giving anyone willing to file his or her papers ample time to do so.

Cde Moyo won the ticket to represent Zanu-PF in a by-election that was due to be held on September 19 when he beat nine other candidates in the party’s primary elections held in Mwenezi on Wednesday last week.

Mwenezi East became vacant in May following the expulsion of Kudakwashe Bhasikiti by Zanu-PF for fanning factionalism and plotting the illegal ouster of President Robert Mugabe.

Cde Moyo said he was happy to be the new representative for Mwenezi East. He promised to bring development to the constituency.

“I’m happy to be nominated unopposed. I saw it coming. I promise to instil the spirit of unity in Mwenezi East constituency. This is a dream come true,” said Cde Moyo.

Cde Moyo said he would spearhead the government’s economic blueprint, Zim-Asset. He promised to promote youth and women’s empowerment programmes.

Cde Moyo said he will also help empower orphans and vulnerable children, as well as people living with disabilities.
