THE ZANU PF Women’s League has embarked on an empowerment drive to equip women in churches across all provinces with various skills to align them with Vision 2030.
The ruling party’s Women’s League is working with the Zimbabwe Indigenous Inter-Denominational Council of Churches (ZIICC) Women Empowerment programme to train women on the manufacturing of 20 different products such as soap, detergents, floor polish and sanitisers.
The programme, which targets women in all communities regardless of their religion or political affiliation, is meant to ensure that no woman is left behind in the empowerment initiative. The Zimbabwe Women Microfinance Bank has also been roped in to inform women of the available loans within the lending institute, while provincial ministers will explain to the women business opportunities existing within the provinces.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail yesterday, ZANU PF Women’s League secretary for administration, Cde Monica Mutsvangwa, said the revolutionary party is assisting women to take advantage of President Mnangagwa’s empowerment policies.
“The Women’s League secretary for women affairs Cde Mable Chinomona and I yesterday (on Friday) were in Masvingo Province at ZCC Mbungo on an empowerment drive targeting women in churches and we have started with indigenous churches,” she said.
“We met with Bishop (Nehemiah) Mutendi who is the patron of Indigenous churches for the programme as well as the Minister of State for Masvingo, Cde Ezra Chadzamira.
“Those trained will then go into communities and train other women, just like President Mnangagwa says, we will not leave anyone behind. So this programme will target all women regardless of their political or church affiliation. We have roped in the Women’s Bank so that they can inform the women how to access loans from them. We have also roped in provincial ministers so that they talk about devolution and the existing business opportunities in their provinces. The programme will be replicated in all provinces across the country so that no one is left behind.”
Cde Mutsvangwa said they will engage the national export promotion body, ZimTrade and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and international Trade to ensure that some of the women’s wares are exported.
