The Zanu-PF Mashonaland West youth leadership has called for peaceful primary elections, which are scheduled for May 5. Addressing party supporters at a Youth Sports Gala in Chegutu East last week, Zanu-PF provincial youth chairperson Cde Vengai Msengi said violence had no room in the party.
“We are saying no to violence ahead of this year’s primary elections,” he said. “Our votes should fight for themselves in the ballot box. Do not harass people or engage in violent activities. Our party’s First Secretary and President, Cde Mnangagwa, has always called for violent-free elections.”
Cde Msengi called for tolerance among party cadres. “Forgive each other; have the spirit of tolerance,” he said. “Some are bitter maybe because of the past, but we should let bygones be bygones while talking to each other for the party’s benefit.”
Cde Msengi urged youths not to harass members of opposition parties. “Peacefully persuade them to join our camp and try to understand why they had jumped the ship,” he said. “We need their votes.”
Meanwhile, speaking on the sidelines of the #EDHasMyVote in Mhondoro District on Monday, Zanu-PF Youth League provincial secretary for security Cde Timothy Masviba also urged youths to desist from violence ahead of the primary elections.
“We need violent-free primary elections,” he said. “As youths, let us lead by example and the world should emulate our primary elections.”
Cde Masviba urged party members to solve their differences amicably guided by the ruling party’s principles of peace, unity and development.
