Zanu-PF youths in poll peace drive

“We are putting together a programme to go around all districts around Harare educating youngsters that violence does not increase votes,” he said.
“Whoever promotes violence, we will use the party constitution to deal with them.
“It is time we walk the talk.”

Cde Kunaka said the league wanted to ensure a peaceful campaign period and prove to the world that peace existed in Zimbabwe.
“Our party is clear on the issue of violence,” he said.

“President Mugabe has said no to violence. It is now our duty to spread the gospel of non-violence to the cell level.”
Cde Kunaka said Zanu-PF was founded on the principles of peace, unity and development and as such it was the mandate of cadres to promote its core values.

He said unlike other political parties, Zanu-PF had a lot of positive issues for the electorate.
“We want to put our energy on educating and reminding the people of our party’s achievements in the last 33 years.
“We want to win without any questions.

“Our fear is that the MDC-T will be provoking incidences of violence to make it appear as if it is us who start it.”
Cde Kunaka said the party was encouraging its youths to register as voters. Cases of violence have in the past rocked Harare and other areas, with the MDC-T at the forefront of starting the fights.

The MDC-T’s strategy has been to provoke violence and then present its members as victims after the fights erupt.
Several MDC-T officials have appeared in the courts in different parts of the country facing charges of violence directed against members of other parties and also for fighting among themselves.

The run-up to this year’s election expected by June 29 has so far been largely peaceful, but some MDC-T supporters have since appeared in court facing charges of assaulting Zanu-PF members.

In Rusape, MDC-T secretary general for Headlands Samson Magumura is appearing in court facing charges of petrol bombing and injuring Zanu-PF leader for ward 12 Cde William Chapepa.
Another MDC-T supporter from Epworth appeared in court this week facing charges of public violence after assaulting two brothers, who are also Zanu-PF supporters, with iron bars.
