ZBC, CCTV sign MoU

The MoU will also see CCTV providing ZBC with the necessary equipment to receive various programmes and upload them to the CCTV news channel.
ZBC chief executive Mr Happison Muchechetere and CCTV editor-in-chief Mr Luo Ming signed the agreement on behalf of the two broadcasters.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Media, Information and Publicity Minister Webster Shamu described the pact as a “herald of good development” within the two countries’ media fraternity. Minister Shamu called on the two countries to harness their strengths in the area of collecting and disseminating information.

“This is a welcome development as we continue to cement our all weather friendly relationship. We shall continue to support the distribution of Chinese information in Zimbabwe.

“We are also going to send a delegation to the China Africa Media Forum in August to learn more things in the media fraternity that will see our country’s media benefitting,” he said.
Minister Shamu said at the moment, the relationship between the two countries was benefitting both countries.

“This is not the first time that you are extending such a gesture to us. We have shown each other high degrees of solidarity and brotherhood and it is our hope that our country will benefit from the technical expertise China has,” he said.
Turning to party issues, Minister Shamu, who is also Zanu-PF national political commissar said the revolutionary party was appreciative of the support it received from the Communist Party of China in defending its sovereignity.

He said the country was under siege from Western countries for its ideas to empower people.
“We want to be masters of our own destiny. We have discovered more minerals in our country. The West has also stepped up its aggressive nature against our right to be masters of economy.
“We won’t bow to their pressure as we defend the gains of our liberation struggle and with your support we are confident we will control everything in our economy in a few years time,” he said.

“Your delegation was in the country last week and they held developmental workshops with our cadres in the 10 provinces. Likewise our chairmen will also be visiting you to extract the knowledge that you have that we hope will develop our structures. We have also agreed to collaborate with Chinese universities for our cadres to attend schools of idelogical education and political education.

“We want to learn how you have succeeded in strengthening your party in fighting external forces,” he said.
CPC vice minister of the publicity department Mr Cai Fuchao said Sino-Zimbabwe relations would continue to blossom despite several efforts by Western countries to distract them.

“We are here to champion the benefits of both countries. Zimbabwe has the resources and we can also weigh in with technical assistance so that both countries benefit.
“Our parties went through the same road to emancipate ourselves and it is this that binds us together as we fight external forces,” he said.
