THE Zimbabwe Cricket chairman and chief executive officer are in Barbados, for the International Cricket Council Annual Conference Week which begins in the island’s capital Bridgetown today.
The week begins with the Associate and Affiliate Members’ meeting, and will conclude with the IBC Board meeting on Friday.
On the sidelines of their respective meetings during the week, both the ZC chairman, Wilson Manase, and chief executive officer, Wilfred Mukondiwa, will be discussing with their Board of Control for Cricket in India counterparts issues which should be resolved before the India tour to Zimbabwe.
There have been reports that an issue over ZC’s broadcasting partner is threatening the tour.
The position is that ZC is in constant contact with both the BCCI and Ten Sports.
India are scheduled to tour Zimbabwe from July 7 for three One-Day International and two Twenty20 International matches.
“If the matters take too long to resolve, ZC and the BCCI might mutually agree to push the tour to next year,” said the ZC chairman.
On reports that the BCCI was finding it difficult to get visas on arrival for its players, the chairman said this cannot be the case as there have never been such challenges during previous visits by India teams – the latest of which was two years ago.
“Cricket is a national sport and ZC enjoys a cordial relationship with all relevant government offices so the acquisition of visas is not an issue,” said Manase.
“The substantive issues are what we will discuss in Barbados.”
Key issues on the agenda of the ICC Annual Conference week include: amendments to the ICC’s Memorandum and Articles of Association, the investiture of the new ICC President, ICC Associate Membership application from Serbia, updates on the status of Sri Lanka Cricket and United States of America Cricket Association, a report from the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit, recommendations on cricket and development matters from recent committee meetings and the ICC strategy going forward.
This is the first time the ICC’s annual meetings will take place in the West Indies. With delegates from over 50 ICC Members attending, it is the largest-ever gathering of cricket administrators in the Americas region to date. — zimcricket.
