ZIMBABWE Cricket has taken its restructuring exercise, aimed at enhancing the performance of the national team, a notch higher by reshuffling the leadership that drives the organisation at office level.
ZC believe that a competitive national team will maximise revenue generation and attract more sponsorship, more tours and television receipts and more gate-takings through increased match attendances.
The domestic cricket board now has been split into three distinct units, to be led by directors, who will carry out the main functions of the organisation under the direction and supervision of chief executive Wilfred Mukondiwa.
The departments are — Finance and Administration, under Esther Chagadama-Lupepe, International and Domestic (First Class) Cricket and Commercial Affairs under former Zimbabwe captain Alistair Campbell, and Development and Club Cricket under Givemore Makoni, who has been promoted from his post of Mountaineers franchise administrator.
“Makoni is one of the longest-serving ZC employees. He was involved with grassroots cricket especially at Takashinga Cricket Club in Highfield, Harare, before joining ZC on a full-time basis and serving at various times as a provincial administrator, national team manager, convener of selectors and franchise executive,” the ZC said in a statement released last night.
Earlier, Mukondiwa addressed the media on the appointments.
He spoke highly of Makoni, who has been one of the pillars of the game for years.
He played a part in the grooming of a number of club and national team players such as Tatenda Taibu (now retired) Hamilton and Shingirai Masakadza and Stewart Matsikenyere.
