ZCC pastor in maintenance storm

A ZION Christian Church pastor last week appeared before Mutare Civil Court for failing to provide for the upkeep of his six-year-old child.
Gibson Saunyama was dragged to court by his ex-wife, Tendai Mudodzwa, with the latter praying for $124 for the upkeep of their child.
Miss Nyasha Kuture presided over the case.

The court heard that the two separated years back, but Saunyama has a wife and three other children to take care of.

“I realise only $15 each month from selling vegetables and that money is not enough for the child’s needs since he has now started going to school. I am seeking the court’s hand so that Saunyama helps me to provide for the needs of our child.

He is a pastor at ZCC and I am sure he can afford the $124 regardless of that he has a wife and three other children to take care,” said Mudodzwa.
In response, Saunyama denied being a pastor.

He told the court that he was only a deacon who survives on piece jobs, getting $70 each month.

He offered to pay $20.
“I am not a pastor Your Worship. I plead with the court to believe that I survive on piece jobs, getting $70 each month. I have four other children and a wife to take care of so I can afford only $20 for this child,” said Saunyama.

Miss Kuture ordered Saunyama to pay $20 as monthly maintenance for the child with effect from February 28.
