THE Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) has partnered with Chipinge Town Council in maintaining a clean and sustainable environment in the eastern border town.
The partnership was solidified after the diamond miner donated 60 refuse bins to the local authority, highlighting the two parties’ commitment to enhance waste management capabilities and promoting responsible disposal practices.
The local authority’s environmental health officer, Ms Margaret Muyambo, hailed the gesture from ZCDC as significant step towards creating a health and cleaner community environment.
“As Chipinge Town Council, we are on a drive to encourage and maintain a clean and sustainable environment in our community. We engaged ZCDC for a partnership through donation of refuse bins, and we are glad that the company responded to our call positively and gave us 60 public bins, which will help to promote cleanliness and pride in our community,” said Ms Muyambo.
Ms Muyambo urged residents to embrace the council’s vision by properly dispose refuse in the bins. “We are committed to ensuring that the bins are utilised effectively, contributing to a cleaner and healthier community for all. Placement of the bins in the streets has begun and we encourage everyone to play a role of keeping Chipinge Town clean by utilising the bins,” she said.
ZCDC public relations manager, Ms Tsungirirai Dhambuza said the partnership aligns with the organisation’s values and sustainability thrust. “Caring for the environment is one of ZCDC’s values and we are committed to sustainable environmental stewardship. This commitment drives us to continue forging partnerships such as this one we had with Chipinge Town Council. We applaud the council for this initiative of keeping the town clean and as ZCDC we partnered them with 60 refuse bins. The bins are an essential tool for keeping the town healthy, functional and pleasant to live in,” said Ms Dhambuza.
ZCDC operates two mining operations in Chiadzwa and Chimanimani.
Chipinge Town is situated 185km South-East of the provincial capital, Mutare, 40km away from the Mt Selinda boarder post with Mozambique. The eastern border town has a thriving agricultural sector and is home to tourist attractions such as Chirinda Forest Botanical Gardens.
