ZIMBABWE Defence Forces’ HQ One Brigade beat their Botswana counterparts 3-0 in the non-commissioned members’ football match played at Francistown Technical College at the weekend.
The Botswana Defence Forces (BDF) was represented by Two Infantry Brigade.
Using the bulk of Indlovu Iyanyathela players who ply their trade in the Southern Region Soccer League, HQ One Brigade were hard to contain getting their goals from Blessing Munetsi, Mphathisi Mxotshwa and Lionel Tsiga.
Indlovu Iyanyathela’s Wisdom Tsungai reportedly had a game of his life, crafting his team’s move. The Zimbabweans also won the officers’ game 1-0, with Lieutenant Vusumuzi Sidingela scoring. Major Trust Chinongo, HQ One Brigade’s sports officer, commended ZDF’s representatives for their inspiring show in Francistown.
“The bilateral games are meant to foster relations between us and our Botswana counterparts through sport. We had about 80 participants travelling for the games and they put up a good show. Everyone enjoyed the experience,” Chinongo said.
HQ One Brigade emerged victorious in the 10KM fitness test where they pushed tyres for 4KM, ran for 4KM carrying weights and carried logs for the remainder of the race. Zimbabwe’s representatives lost 0-3 in volleyball and were beaten 1-2 in the tug-of-war.
