In an interview from Harare yesterday, ZEC deputy chairperson Mrs Joyce Kazembe said the training, which started on Friday in the country’s 10 provinces, ended yesterday.
“We have just completed the training of our voter educators and the teams are ready for deployment starting from tomorrow,” said Mrs Kazembe.
“We want to cover all the 1 963 wards in the country and we would have two voter educators per ward. The teams will educate the electorate about the voting process and prepare them for the second phase of the voter registration programme.
“They will discuss with the electorate what to expect during the registration exercise and the documents one needs to have in order to register.”
Mrs Kazembe said the voter registration, which would be conducted by the Registrar General’s Office, would soon be rolled out as logistical arrangements for the exercise were being ironed out.
The second phase of voter registration exercise is set to pave way for the imminent harmonised elections.
The new voter registration would be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the new constitution, which President Mugabe signed recently.
The new constitution provides for an additional 30-day registration period.
Treasury has already released $11, 6 million towards the second phase of voter registration meant to cater for thousands of prospective voters who failed register during the previous exercise.
More than 200 000 first time voters registered in last month’s mobile voter registration exercise.
Zimbabwe is geared for the holding of harmonised elections after the expiry of Parliament on 29 June with the Constitutional Court last week ruling that harmonised elections should be held by 31 July.
