THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has warned the public against a fraudulent job recruitment advertisement circulating on social media, saying the notice is the work of criminals.

In a statement issues today, ZEC chief elections officer Mr Simbarashe Tongayi said the commission does not recruit personnel through social media platforms and disowned the viral post as unauthorised.

Mr Tongayi said all official vacancies within the electoral body are advertised exclusively through local mainstream newspapers and the commission’s official communication channels.

“The commission wishes to categorically state that this advertisement is fraudulent, unauthorised, and does not originate from the commission,” he said.

“Any information to the contrary should be treated as false and deceptive. The commission strongly urges members of the public to exercise caution and refrain from engaging with or responding to such fraudulent advertisements, particularly where personal information or payments are requested.”

The electoral body further warned that it does not recruit through third parties and advised the public against clicking on suspicious links or providing personal details to unverified sources.

Turning to those behind the scam, Mr Tongayi said the commission would not hesitate to take legal action, noting that the circulation of such information is a punishable offense.

“The Commission warns individuals or groups behind this malicious practice to immediately cease and desist from publishing or circulating false information in the name of the organisation. Such actions are unlawful and constitute an offence under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act [Chapter 9:23] and will result in the Commission taking legal action against them.”

The commission urged the public to rely on its official website, verified email ([email protected]), or their landlines (+263-242-759130/756252) for accurate information regarding employment opportunities.
