THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has established a National Multiparty Liaison Committee for the 2013 harmonised elections.
The committee is made up of two members from each of the five political parties that fielded candidates for the Presidential elections and is chaired by Zec commissioner Theophilus Pharaoh Gambe.
It has been mandated with monitoring and ensuring observance of electoral conduct and laws by political parties in the 31 July elections.
According to a notice by the electoral body, the committee was set up in terms of Section 160B (1) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13].
The members of the committee are Cdes Sydney Sekeramayi and Rugare Gumbo (Zanu-PF), Messrs Frank Chamunorwa, Michael Mukashi (MDC), Messrs Morgan Komichi and Obert Gutu (MDC-T) Zapu would be represented by Messrs Mjobisa Noko and Echem Nkala and Zimbabwe Development Party (ZDP) seconded Mr Noah Justice and Mr Julius Mudakuvaka.
Contacted for comment yesterday, Comm Gambe said the National Multiparty Liaison Committee would sit to hear complaints by political parties, regarding elections.
“It will also establish sub-committees in provinces to ensure that all constituencies are covered,” said Comm Gambe.
Section 160B (1) of the Act directs Zec to establish a national multiparty liaison committee, a constituency multiparty liaison committee and a local authority multiparty liaison committee as soon as possible after the close of nominations in an election.
The Nomination Court sat on 28 June.
