Zec invites applications for run-off council elections

THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) is inviting applications for accreditation from those who want to observe the run-off elections for local authorities on 11 September.The run-off elections would be held in Kadoma Municipality’s Ward 4,  Ward 5 in Kusile Rural District Council and Mutasa’s Ward 30.
The invitation is extended to both local and foreign observers.

In a statement yesterday, Zec chief election officer Mr Lovemore Sekeramayi said: “Local observers and the media should direct their applications to the chief elections officer through Zec provincial election offices of the province in which the observers and the media propose to discharge their duties,” he said.

Mr Sekeramayi said the deadline for receipt of applications was 7 September.   Accreditation observers’ fees are $10 for locals, $20 from the African continent, $50 for embassies in Zimbabwe and $100 from those outside Africa.

“Zimbabwe media practitioners accredited with Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) and working in Zimbabwe for foreign media houses will fork out $50 and local media practitioners accredited with the ZMC would pay a fee of $10,” said Mr Sekeramayi.

He advised all applicants to acquaint themselves with the provisions of accreditation of observers’ regulations.
Accreditation would run between 5 and 11 September in different provinces and venues.

“In Harare, Zec Headquarters, Manicaland Mutasa District Zec Offices, Matabeleland North Lupane District Zec offices and Mashonaland West Kadoma Municipality Civic Centre” said Mr Sekeramayi.

The run-off election is for wards where candidates received an equal number of votes during the harmonised elections on 31 July.
